Internship Opportunities

The sports industry has grown dramatically in the Nashville area and promises to continue to expand. Internships are available in a variety of job titles. Students have been placed with, Nashville Predators (NHL), Nashville Super Speedway, Tennessee Titans (NFL), Nashville Sounds (Triple A Baseball), The Nashville Sports Council, Rivals.com, as well as various college and university athletic departments.

 

Typical Job Responsibilities

Job responsibilities vary with the type of organization, sport industry and level of management. All involve business aspects of sport and normally include 50-60 hour workweek including nights and weekends. Job duties may include tickets sales, game operations, promotions, marketing, and financial operations. Additional responsibilities may include facility and event management, sport broadcasting and media relations or sales.

 

A Beneficial Career

In sport management, the career field is extremely competitive. The majority of jobs will require a "hands on" internship as experience. Graduate internships sometimes provide a stipend and academic credit can be earned towards graduation. Internships offer an opportunity to network and learn from professionals in the field.

Marketing and promotions director, academic services for student-athletics, corporate sales director, director of ticketing and finance, field sales representative, facilities coordinator, athletic director, compliance director, athletic business manager, and community relations director are examples of some job titles.
