5 Easy Steps to Visioneering Your Life:

1. Go through a discovery period where you can become curious. True discovery will happen when you think you are in over your head! This leads you to connect with your passion and allows you to look to others to better understand how to do what you want to be doing!

2. Get a mentor who is in the field you want to be in. Experience and education are the keys to success even during difficult times. Find a mentor who wants to invest in you and you will find both.

3. Write down your dreams. Why won't people do this? Because it's hard to slow down and become intentional.

4. Tell other people about your vision. Right when you decide to take a day off, your friends will ask you how the new "project" in your life is coming.

5. Go find people who can help you manifest that vision and don't stop until you go BIG TIME. When two or three gather together for the same cause anything is possible. Experience the miracle and connect with people who care about the same things you do.

Agreement to Participate

Bestselling author, Joe Calloway was our guest on Change Your Life Radio last week and provided some great perspective about how companies should position themselves, the philosophies that drive him and what he does, and the reality of the recession and how it has impacted all levels of business.

When asked about the economy, Joe stated, "I'm helping companies position for success as we come out of the recession and into recovery. This notion of refusing to participate in the recession really should be examined. I advised all of my clients that the recession was 100% real, that it changed everything, and that recessions ALWAYS create incredible opportunities for those people and companies that were smart enough to take advantage of it. I TOTALLY participated in the recession as I used it as an opportunity to reposition my business within the industry."

Who on earth would ignore and "refuse to participate" in the greatest economic event of our lifetimes?

That advice seems to catch people's attention and make them think - which is Calloway's number one goal - to help people look at what they do with "new eyes" and consider possibilities.

From the Coach

Coach shared with Joe that he wrote on his vision board many months ago, "quit selling and start solving problems." Joe agreed and said that when he meets with clients he does not immediately pull out a brochure, instead he asks them to talk about 3 challenges they face. At that point Joe can better understand the landscape and provide specific solutions to those problems.

From the Strategist

What I took away from Joe was that asking your people one simple question like, "What are you doing that you know you should be doing but you currently are not," is just as powerful as developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy. Joe also indicated that becoming a category of one begins with a mindset that forces organizations to get to the basics of what they do and do those things better than anyone else.

Joe Calloway is a Category of One. He emailed CYLR back within 30 seconds of the request to be on the show and was entertaining and thought provoking. No gatekeeper. Just joe, his ideas and a chance to see things in a new way.

Dreaming With Your Eyes Wide Open

In week 12 of Change Your Life Radio we focused on selling your dream and services to others. Clay Walker, stated in his song that he was going to do his dreaming with his eyes wide open and we couldn't agree more. Below are the steps Coach Burt discussed on the show:

1. Find enlightened people. Enlightened people are those that understand what your dream is and see the value in your services.  Don't waste your time selling your dream to people that don't understand your value. It's a waste of your time and theirs. This process begins with finding Enlightened People.

2. Turn people on vs. Turn people off. Once enlightened people are identified the focus should be shifted to getting people to "open up their dreamer!" You will know you are on the right track when you get others to understand the importance of minimizing regret. Coach will often say, "We far regret the things we didn't do rather than the things we did." Ask yourself this question, "If we couldn't fail what would I do?" We call
this a Unique Perspective.

3. Lose yourself in the dreams of others. I have heard coach say many times, "they get it out it, what you put into it." Taking this approach will lead to you having a group of Vested Partners that will support you and your dreams no matter what the cost.

4. Have "mini-victories" and track your progress. People believe in results. Sometimes we have to make believers of ourselves as well. Having a "mini-victory" will help you show others that the dream can become a reality. Decide what those many victories are and set timelines to achieve them. Tell your closest friend, your spouse or even someone you don't know! The stranger might hold you even more accountable.

5. Make believers through action. All dreamers are not achievers, but all achievers are dreamers. What started as a writing exercise on the beach at Destin turned into his first book and is a journey that continues today. The first thing Coach Burt did was dream of writing his own book.

ROI - A Post Operative Accounting Statistic

ROI – A Post Operative Accounting Statistic

Why do marketers have to justify their budgets?  Why is it, when budget cuts are made, the first place organizations look is to cut the marketing budget?  Maybe it’s because we don’t really understand or have not clearly defined the power of the department we lead.

For the purpose of this piece, marketing should be defined as sharing the story of your organization, its purpose and its people over and over through multiple channels.

The more you sell the story, the more you create the conversation, the more people are brought into the fold, the more people become curious, the more people want to learn, the more people want to connect to you, your company, your brand, your product or service.

So let’s unmask Return on Investment (ROI) as it seems to be the way of the herd today as marketing managers are asked to justify their budgets.

The following will provide you with some great talking points about ROI (Return on Investment) vs. (ROO) Return on Objective.

Think about the following the next time you have to justify your marketing budget:

1. Replace the question "why me?" with "what is this trying to teach me?"

2. Ask the question, "what did I contribute to end up where I am?"

3. Get stable. Stability provides us with a chance to take a better perspective.

4. Get help. As you have heard coach say ,"everybody needs a coach in life."

5. Get busy. Start to focus on the things that you can correct in order to change your life!

We The People

1. We think failure is avoidable- it's not. Avoiding failure is avoiding your next great achievement.

2. We think failure is an event- it's not. Choices define us, failures don't.

3. We think failure is objective- it's not. Only we know whether or not we failed.

4. We think failure is the enemy- it's not. The enemy is found in the choices we make following the failure.

5. We think failure is irreversible- it's not. Perspective provides us with opportunities to try again.

What App is Running You?

What App is Running You?

All of us are scripted by past experiences, education, relationships, as well as our own success and failures. These scripts are grounded in our habits, practices and routines we develop throughout the course of our
lives. In the 21st century the term scripting has taken several new meanings as technology professionals understand scripting as a language that allows control of one or more software applications.

So, it begs the question, "what app is running you?

Change Your Life Radio focused on Breakthroughs during the week of August 1, 2010 with the following steps in place for you to engage!

To break through, you must first break with your old habits. The following keys will help you make a break in your own life!

1. The Imagination Key- You can't achieve what you can't see. Have you ever heard Coach Burt say, "...chase a dream that no one else can see but you." You also might hear him say, "live out of your imagination" not out
of the things that have scripted you to this point. The point is to imagine it, write it down, and take action.

2. The People Key- On the way to a recent engagement we passed by a truck that said "Our People Are The Driving Force." Understanding that planes can't fly themselves and that people are the critical part of the
equation will help you seek humility as you work with others. Seeing people as integral to achievement is important if you want to break with your past scripting. If you want to get better understand one simple idea - Search out coaching it's one of the most effective ways to improve.

3. The Confidence Key- Confidence is the memory of success. Having belief in yourself and those around you is important when you start to experience growth and struggle. To build confidence look for mini-victories
that you can celebrate and build upon those. As Coach Burt will tell you, "private victories precede public victories."

4. The Purpose Key- Marrying talents and passions with a need in the world is the formula to find your purpose. Coach Burt will ask you, "what is your conscience telling you?" That voice inside of you is telling you to do something. Ignoring it is ignoring the purpose inside of you.

5. The Team Key- Understanding that each person on your team has a unique ability will help you break with old thought processes and habits. Sit down with each person on your team and ask them to list their abilities
and how those translate in your organization.

6. The Resilience Key- Failure will be part of the process. Coach Burt calls it the "Bounceback Factor." Remember when you were a child and you put a quarter in one of those machines as you walked out of the grocery store only to get another SUPERBALL! Become a superball. Go buy one and
every time you have a failure, get the ball and throw it around your office!

7. The Experience Key- Through each one of your experiences you will find a new way to break with your past scripting. With each experience you have, you should ask how it fits with the Dream Key and how you can build on those experiences to find the success you seek.

The Millsaps Advantage

Colby B. Jubenville, Ph.D.

I recently visited the Millsaps Facebook Site and was reminded of one of the defining moments in my life. Note the disclaimer about "Comps" below. I failed and how to take the oral exam again. The lesson I took away is make sure that you come prepared.

Despite its religious affiliation, the curriculum is secular. The writing-intensive core curriculum requires each student to compile an acceptable portfolio of written work before completion of the sophomore
year. Candidates for an undergraduate degree must also pass oral and written comprehensive exams in
their major field of study. These exams last up to three hours, and may cover any required or elective course offered by the major department. Unacceptable performance on comprehensive exams will prevent a candidate from receiving a degree, even if all course work has been completed. "Comps" are usually associated with graduate degree requirements, so their inclusion at the undergraduate level is a source of pride (and possibly pressure) for Millsaps students.

My good friend and business associate, Ernie Gray www.erniegray.com recently wrote about Email and Social Marketing and some of the confusion that exists about how different business models should integrate these tools as part of their marketing strategy. As I indicated in a recent blog:

Small to medium size business owners sometimes have a difficult time understanding why they should dedicate dollars to marketing efforts as part of the budgeting process. The predominant thought is that it is difficult to measure the Return on Investment (ROI) related to the different marketing strategies available and the cost associated with the execution of these strategies once they are implemented.

As a consultant, I understand these concerns. To address this issue, I use a Return on Objective (ROO) Model that is focused on achieving the objectives that these business owners set for themselves and the success they want for their companies. For example, a company may want to grow by 10% in a certain product category or may want to focus on opening a certain number of stores in a specified time period. The model that I use allows business owners to focus on what is most important to them and not get caught up in the number of impressions, page views, or click through and the arbitrary calculations as to how much these activities are worth.

Ernie provides some insight and perspective as a web designer, programmer, and media guru!

Why Coaches Matter

Colby B. Jubenville, Ph.D.
In the book "The E-Myth Mastery" author Michael Gerber states:

"To achieve mastery one must achieve clarity, and to achieve clarity, most often requires an outside influence, someone who can pull you out of yourself so that you can more readily see yourself, someone who can challenge your assumptions, your beliefs, the habits what you do in reaction to what happens to you, the opinions you hold, the walls you set up to keep your life comfortable, unthreatened, unchallenged. It's hard to see yourself and your potential without the eyes of another. "
